We are trustees of a long tradition which has sought to bring our religious convictions into the world 'and so to excite our endeavours to mend it'. We are trying to live in the virtue of that life and power that takes away the occasion of all wars. London Yearly Meeting, 1987 West Cumbria Area Quaker Meeting (formerly known as Pardshaw Monthly Meeting) comprises three local Quaker Meetings - Cockermouth, Keswick and Whitehaven. Fuller details of these are available by following the links on the left, which explain how to get there, when we meet, and so on. The old Meeting House at Pardshaw sees a Meeting for Worship once a month. If you need to contact us, then follow the Contacts link.Quakers do not have clergy - we appoint some of our members to be clerks (for business meetings), elders and overseers. The key to our worship is waiting on the Spirit in silence. If you want to know more about Quakers - what we are; what we believe; and what we do - then follow the link "About Quakers" which will take you to our national web site. The West Cumbria Area Meeting is a charity. At the moment we have what is called "excepted" status, but in due course we expect to become a registered charity. In connection with this we do have a Governing Document, which sets out our charitable object, and how we are managed. |
